The first seven drivers to have won NHRA Funny Car titles in 2012 earned berths in the eight-car, single-elimination battle in which the event winner will earn $100,000. Hagan was not in that group but can be the eighth and final entrant if his name is drawn in a lottery where the number of chances a driver gets is proportionate with how many fan votes the driver received.
