GREENVILLE, S.C. – Chase Elliott will spend his Labor Day driving the No. 9 Aaron’s Dream Machine/Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Monday, Sept. 3.
As the K&N Pro Series East points battle continues, Elliott enters the Greenville event ranked third in the 2012 championship standings, 22 points behind leader Brett Moffitt.
“A part of you wants to pay attention to it,” Elliott said about the points race. “But realistically, if you go out and run the best you can, the points are going to figure themselves out and there’s nothing you can really do about it. It’s still early, and there’s so much racing left. Anybody that has watched racing knows it doesn’t matter until it’s all over.
“For us, we’re just focusing on the remaining K&N races this season and we’ll do our best to put ourselves in the right position to be there at the end of those races and be there when it counts. I think the points will figure themselves out.”
This upcoming Monday’s 140-lap event will be broadcast on SPEED on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. ET.
Given his previous success at the half-mile track, Greenville is a spot where Elliott hopes to gain some ground in the championship standings. In three K&N Pro Series East career starts there, Elliott has posted three top-six K&N finishes. Most recently in March, Elliott finished sixth there.
In 2011, Elliott scored third- and fourth-place finishes at the half-mile track during his rookie K&N season. He also competed at Greenville racing late models in 2010 and took runner-up honors in October of that year.
Overall, Elliott has posted one win, eight top-five finishes and 14 top-10s in 24 career K&N Pro Series starts. In 10 K&N Pro Series East starts this season, he has posted one win, four top-five finishes, seven top-10s and has led a total of 70 laps.
Elliott will participate in the K&N Pro Series East autograph session at Greenville on Sept. 3 from 4:45-5:30 p.m. local time. For race updates, please follow Cindy Elliott on Twitter at www.twitter.com/CindyElliott9 and Megan Whiteside at www.twitter.com/MeganWhiteside.
