Elliott Looking to Continue Winning Momentum this Weekend at Five Flags

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The month of May has been good to Chase Elliott.

The 16-year old Elliott first drove his No. 9 Aaron’s Dream Machine/Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet to Victory Lane at Gresham Motorsports Park after winning the super late model event there on May 12. Seven days later, Elliott won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West combination event at Iowa Speedway, earning his first victory in 18 career K&N Pro Series starts. With the win, Elliott extended his lead in the K&N Pro Series East championship standings to 20 points over second-place Brett Moffitt.

Elliott is finishing up his sophomore year of high school this week, but he has the next race — Friday’s super late model event at Five Flags Speedway — circled on his calendar. Elliott most recently won at the Pensacola, Fla., racetrack in late March.

“In any sport, momentum is huge,” Elliott said. “It’s definitely going to be cool coming off a big win in Iowa like that. This weekend’s race in Pensacola is going to be a lot of fun, and we are going to give it our all.”

Elliott’s last late model race at Five Flags took place on March 25. He dominated the 100-lap event and went on to win it. This win concluded a successful Gulf Coast Series race weekend, which also included another victory at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway the night before on March 24.

Elliott has accumulated an impressive racing resume at Five Flags since 2009. In 17 late model starts, he has posted six wins, 11 top-five finishes, 13 top-10s and also earned one pole position at the half-mile track. One of those wins includes the prestigious Snowball Derby in December 2011, where he bested NASCAR Cup-level talent to become the youngest winner in the event’s history.

“Looking ahead and realizing this is our last race scheduled before the 2012 Snowball Derby, this is something we will definitely keep in mind,” Elliott said. “We need to learn all we can so we will be prepared to the best of our ability in December.”

So far this season in nine late model starts, Elliott has posted five wins, six top-five finishes, eight top-10s and also earned four pole positions.
