The 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season is unofficially under way now that Don Schumacher Racing has returned to its Brownsburg headquarters with reams of information obtained during testing last week in South Florida. DSR truck driving tandems hauled race cars and mobile technical trailers home fromSouth Floridato be back in the spacious DSR shop to begin getting ready for the 2,047-mile jaunt to the West Coast in about two weeks.
Matt Hagan and the Aaron’s Dream Machine Dodger Charger R/T Funny Car made more than a dozen runs from Jan. 17 through Saturday at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Fla., in preparation for the Feb. 9-12 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Hagan and crew chief Tommy DeLago were so pleased with their accomplishments in testing that the reigning NHRA Funny Car champions skipped Saturday night’s final run after a 4.123 seconds at 307.23 mph earlier in the day. Their best effort all week was at 4.062, 315.71 mph.
Hagan said, “We learned everything we needed to, and the guys have worked so hard this week. There really wasn’t anything else for our Aaron’s Dream Machine team to accomplish. We had fun, the weather was great. It was one of those deals when we were just excited to be here. I’m really happy with this new chassis DSR has put out here for us. It’s worked really well.”
